Simon Wallace

Chief Inspector Simon Wallace.

Chief Inspector Simon Wallace was a Metropolitan Police Officer serving at Barton Street as Chief Inspector (Ops) in 1995.

An officer on the accelerated promotion scheme, he gained the rank of Inspector whilst at Bramshill Police College and later gained the rank of Chief Inspector whilst on leave to complete his master's degree. As a result, he had no operational experience at Inspector level.

Wallace challenges Quinnan's arrest technique.

In January 1995, he came across P.C. Dave Quinnan arresting Dennis Mooney in Commercial Street. Wallace was dressed in his own suit at the time and challenged Quinnan and P.C. George Garfield over their heavy-handed approach to the arrest but was rebuffed.

Later the same day Wallace arrived at Sun Hill to speak with Chief Inspector Philip Cato regarding the matter. After their initial pleasantries (where Wallace informed Cato that his old station had moved on since his time there), Cato rebuffs Wallace's concerns reminding him of his lack of operational experience and that during the incident Wallace failed to announce who he was to Quinnan and Garfield. Wallace leaves Cato's office taunting the more experienced officer that he knows where he is going and challenges Cato to know where he will be in five years.

Simon Wallace and Cato

Cato spots Wallace leaving Conway's office.

Following this meeting, Wallace goes to speak to Chief Inspector Derek Conway to introduce himself but also raise the issue again.

Simon Wallace at Area

Wallace waits in the Area waiting area as he speaks with Cato.

Towards the end of the day, Wallace is at Area to present a paper when he is approached in the waiting room by Cato. Following his review with Chief Superintendent Charles Brownlow, Cato initially attempts to apologise to Wallace but the latter's attitude towards him results in Cato threatening to bounce him round the car park should they ever cross paths again. Notes:

Simon Wallace was played by Angus Wright for this one appearance only.

Cato refers to Wallace as having a masters degree in Business Administration although this could be Cato's attempt at sarcasm in his heated conversation with Conway.
