Simon Bradby was a Metropolitan Police Officer serving as a Detective Chief Inspector in 1990.
In the episode Lies, Bradby arrived at Sun Hill to stand in for D.C.I Gordon Wray who, along with D.I. Frank Burnside, was away. He knew D.S. Ted Roach when the two played rugby once upon a time and Roach recalled a moment when Bradby nearly bit his ear off despite being on the same team. He congratulated the other officers on the success of a wage snatch which was led by D.S. Alastair Greig, who was acting D.I. at the time but Roach revealed that there was a second gun was used. Bradby ordered the detectives to go back to the area to give it a once over and he sat in with D.C. Mike Dashwood in an interview to interrogate one of the suspects on the wage snatch. Greig and D.C's Tosh Lines and Viv Martella searched for the gun but there was no sign of it until they heard the sound of a gunshot. They ran towards where the gun was fired from and saw that a young boy had picked the gun up and accidentally shot a young girl. Bradby warned Grieg that there was going to be an enquiry and that he did not plan the raid properly.
Bradby makes his second and last appearance in the episode Old Wounds when he sits in Chief Superintendent Brownlow's office as the two listen to a tape recording of a suspect which was carried out by D.S. Roach and D.C. Jim Carver. The suspect became ill and died of a heart attack shortly after the interview. Carver was in trouble and worried that he could get suspended. Bradby told Brownlow that he would look over the details of the incident. The son of the suspect went to the papers and held Sun Hill responsible for his father's death. Bradby ordered Roach to check Carver's facts and to be sure it was within P.A.C.E. Roach questioned his order but Bradby told him to check the facts and to tell Carver to remain in the building. He spoke with Carver and told him that Brownlow may have to speak to him about interview technique. He eventually left after both Wray and Burnside returned.
