Superintendent Adam Okaro briefs the team who’ll be on crowd control at the sell-out gig at Bombastic night club. He warns them that feelings are running high following Jordan Tomlin’s death and PC Roger Valentine winds PC Lewis Hardy up by suggesting that he’s Sun Hill’s secret weapon because he can speak the lingo. Lewis asks Inspector Gina Gold if he can be paired with someone other than Roger but she is quick to refuse his request.
At the club, PC Emma Keane is forced to arrest a man for possession of drugs. The crowd react badly and PC Leela Kapoor is forced to call for back up when they are cornered by a jeering mob. Roger, Lewis and PC Will Fletcher help calm the crowd and when another fight erupts. Acting Sergeant Yvonne Hemmingway suggests the bouncers admit the crowd spite of the number of forged tickets. Severe over-crowding causes the club’s balcony to collapse, sending people to their death. Roger realises that a car is blocking the fire escape, so he calls through to Will who eventually manages to move the car by hot wiring it. Seven clubbers are killed beneath the stampede and a shaky Will desperately attempts to give another man CPR. Backup is called.
Back inside the club, Roger and Lewis help fire-fighters with the aftermath and when a lighting rig falls, Roger barges his colleague out of the way, taking the full impact and knocking him unconscious. Realising his heart has stopped, a guilty Lewis watches helplessly as Roger is rushed into an ambulance fighting for his life. Has Roger given his own life to spare Lewis’s?
