Yesterday's Hero is the 1405th episode of The Bill.
P.C. Quinnan is recovering at St Hugh's Hospital and has a steady stream of visitors, but some are more welcome than others, least of all the press. Fed up with his private room, Quinnan is moved to a ward and resolves to help Gary Jukes, a fellow patient who claims the police have done nothing to find the person who stabbed him, although he soon comes to realise that Jukes' wounds are self-inflicted. P.C. Garfield takes an interest in one of Quinnan's nurses.
Tensions between D.S. Boulton and Garfield over Quinnan's stabbing reaches boiling point on an obbo with P.C. Hollis. Garfield explodes when pushed too far, and he headbutts Boulton, nearly breaking his nose. It's up to Hollis to step in and help Garfield come to terms with his feelings of helplessness over the incident.
