An artist is painting in the middle of the road while a lorry is blocking the road. The girl won't talk but doesn't appear to be deaf. P.C. Garfield is stopped by a hit and run accident. Later W.P.C. Brind notices children jumping on the roof of an abandoned car. The hit and run victim, a small girl, dies. D.S. Greig goes to see the car owner, who is pregnant. Sgt. Cryer is showing P.C. Turnham around the beat. When they go to arrest the car driver, Cryer is pushed down the stairs. Turnham hits the suspect repeatedly. Cryer is accused of being jealous.
