The Leopard: Part One is the 1580th episode of The Bill.
PCs Dale 'Smithy' Smith and Nick Klein attend to Mr Kennedy, whose house and garden shed have been attacked by vandals repeatedly over the past few weeks. When Kennedy threatens to take matters into his own hands, Smithy casually comments that he "wouldn't blame him if he did".
Meanwhile, Smithy submits his application to SO19, while Supt. Tom Chandler wants Nick to take the position of partnership officer at the Town Hall. When Kennedy shoots a young boy, he claims self-defence and insists that Smithy told him to do so. When Nick is unable to confirm Smithy's innocence, Smithy further endangers his career by attacking Nick in the corridor and ending up with a suspension.
