Episode Chronology:

Over The Edge is the 1501st episode of The Bill.

Ch. Supt. Brownlow and Ch. Supt. Mannion are on the panel for a Metropolitan Police hearing against a sergeant who is charged with disobeying a direct order which resulted in the serious injury of another officer. Mannion is easily convinced of the officer's guilt, but Brownlow isn't so sure.

  • P.C. Beckett - Kaye Wragg

Notes[]

Kaye Wragg, who plays P.C. Beckett, would later join the cast as P.C. Diane Noble. Samantha Bond reprises her role as QC Mary McMahon from Deadly Impact and Big Day.

The riot mentioned in this episode took place on the Coal Lane Estate, and as we see from the inquest taking place, Coal Lane is under the jurisdiction of Park Rise Police Station. The neighbouring station is Clay Hill. Interestingly, three years later, Coal Lane is clearly in Sun Hill's territory, being the focus of several 2003-2004 episodes.
