No Love Lost is the 1396th episode of The Bill
On a night out with Luke Ashton and Eddie Santini, Matthew Boyden picks up an attractive young girl named Danielle at a nightclub. The pair go back to his flat and share a night of passion. The following morning Boyden deals with a call to a burglary and assault. A man has been left badly injured after being hit in the face with a bottle. The evidence suggests it was a domestic dispute, as little was stolen. Boyden gets a shock when Danielle walks in. He learns that her real name is Natalie, and that she is only 15. PC Hagen discovers that Natalie and her younger sister were being pimped out by their step-father with their mother's connivance, and that it was Natalie who attacked him with the bottle.
Natalie is arrested and reveals in interview that she slept with Boyden, which sparks a CIB investigation. Santini and Ashton provide different accounts of the night before, but when the girl goes AWOL en route to a secure unit, Boyden swallows his pride and goes in search. He finds her collapsed beside the canal having taken an overdose. He anonymously phones for an ambulance, but later learns from Ch Insp Conway that Natalie died in hospital. Despite now being in the clear, he is visibly upset at her death. On his way out of the station, Boyden bumps into Santini, who congratulates him and callously dismisses the girl as a "slag", which makes Boyden lose his temper.
Barbara Durkin guest stars as Pam Taylor in this episode.
