Judgement Call is the 970th episode of The Bill.
Uniform and C.I.D. are on the lookout for escaped prisoner Jim Brodie. D.S. Beech and D.C. Skase are keeping his wife under observation. D.S. Greig and D.C. Woods are running a drugs surveillance. P.C. Slater and W.P.C. Marshall pursue two burglars down to the riverfront, where one of them gives Slater a severe beating. Marshall sees someone on the barges and gives chase. Officers sent to assist are delayed because P.C. Hollis has a dodgy tummy, and by the time back up arrives, Marshall has disappeared. When her dead body is fished out of the river, the two crooks that she and Slater had been pursuing are questioned over her possible murder. Searching the barge where Marshall was last seen, C.I.D. find evidence that someone has been sleeping rough on board, and it looks like it was their escaped prisoner, Brodie. The river police intercept Brodie fleeing to Amsterdam on his friend's boat, but there is not enough evidence to charge him for the murder of Cathy Marshall.
