Badlands is the 1403rd episode of The Bill.
D.S. Boulton is determined to catch a pair of brutal thieves, and he is certain that local crook Mick Glover is one of them. Ignoring protests from P.C. Quinnan and P.C. Garfield, who already have Glover under surveillance, Boulton leads a disastrous raid on Glover's flat against D.S. Daly's judgement, which fails to uncover any evidence, and subsequently puts Quinnan's informant Janie in grave danger. When Quinnan and Garfield find Janie's flat on the Jasmine Allen Estate vandalised, Quinnan pursues the suspects, but finds himself separated from Garfield, who can only watch in horror as his friend is beaten and stabbed by a gang of youths. As Quinnan fights for his life, Boulton faces a backlash from his colleagues.
