Time in The Bill[]
He first appeared in Episode 470 after his wife, also a Sergeant at Barton Street, Nikki Wright. She had just transferred to Sun Hill. PCs Roger Valentine & Reg Hollis found a body on the Aldbourne Estate, and Doug was FLO to the victim's father, Rick Harris. In Episode 471, Rick was arrested for drink driving, but had just parked somewhere, gotten drunk and fallen asleep. However, he abducted a child and a manhunt was launched. Thanks to DI Neil Manson, Doug & family friend James Tennant helped find Rick & the missing child.
Cop Killer[]
In Match Day Violence, Barton Street officers, including Doug were drafted to Sun Hill for a football match. However, a riot kicks off in a nearby pub, and Doug is stabbed by an unknown assailant. He recovered but was sent a letter saying This time I was unlucky, next time I'll finish the job. Nikki was in charge of puppy walking two new PCs Sally Armstrong and Billy Rowan. At the end of a successful day Sally and Billy were planning to go for a drink but first they had to go an abandoned cheese factory where youths were throwing stones. However this was a trap set by Doug's stabber, and Nikki and Billy were separated, and the attacker slit Billy's neck killing him. Nikki, now fired up from Doug's stabbing and Billy's death decided she wanted the killer caught. CID found Greg Farnham, but Nikki failed to ID him, so when he was released she was held at knifepoint, and stopped him from killing himself. When Farnham asked Nikki why she saved his life she just said For justice, as earlier in the day when Billy's mum said You'll make sure he pays. Doug was last seen leaving Sun Hill with Nikki at the end of the episode. From phone calls Nikki took after this it is believed Doug went back to work.
