Brian Kite was a character in The Bill in 1987. == Profile == Brian Kite replaced Sam Deeping as the inspector on A -Relief during the third series. He was first seen talking to Sgt. Penny and P.C. Shaw in relation to a man who was arrested for carrying a deadly weapon in order to seek revenge against P.C. Muswell, who left the force months ago but was not convinced by this. Brian was able to drop the charge but gave the man a warning. An unpopular recruit to the Sun Hill ranks, he kept an eagle eye on his relief, particularly Sgt. Bob Cryer. Kite and Cryer clashed on a number of occasions when it came to the approach of policing. To Cryer, he felt that policing should be about being on the streets but to Kite, he felt that Cryer was not able to change with the times. Another time when they clashed was when Bob hit a pedestrian whilst chasing criminals and instead of standing by his side, Brian was non-sympathetic to him and would make sure that Cryer's career was finished. Bob was later cleared of any wrongdoing and Brian later apologized but Bob angrily reminded him on how he nearly succeeded. Kite once confronted Chief Superintendent Brownlow about the detentions levels for prisoners but Brownlow reminded him that Sun Hill deals with practicalities and not theoretics. Brian considered himself the modern face of policing: rule bound, PACE-quoting, politically correct, making all the right moves. But really he was pedantic, officious, abrasive, uncompassionate and his only concern was for the good reputation of the force. Choosing to rule by fear, none were too upset when his stay at the station turned out only to be for a couple of months. He was replaced by Insp. Christine Frazer. == Service Record == * September 1987 - Posted at Sun Hill * December 1987 - Leaves Sun Hill == Notes == * Kite was portrayed by Simon Slater who would make a guest appearance years later in the episode Blood Money as Martin Price. start box end box
